Tried in the Fire

Posted on March 2, 2014

Have you ever felt that you were going through the worst times in your life? Have you felt like your problems were so painful that you felt like you were walking through fire? Do you ever wonder to yourself or ask God, “why? why? why?”, when you reflect on your situations?

More importantly, do you ever try to figure it out on your own and seem to get “stuck” or “overwhelmed” by trying to go it alone?

Rest assured, all of us have moments when our faith gets weak, our doubts become more present, and our problems seem to take a leading role in our life. For some of us, we may even turn away from God in hopes that we will figure it out on our own and return to Him when we “have it together” or are feeling better. Many of us are problem solvers, which leads us to believe that we can solve our own problems. This, however, is the furthest from the truth. In all of our situations and circumstances, we need God to intervene and take control at all times. No matter how big or small our problem may be, we all need God to solve it and redirect our path.

When I look at my life, I have grown to become thankful for the painful moments — just as much as the pleasurable moments. Nothing is ever perfect, but I have come to experience that through my most painful moments, I have learned, grown, and developed more by going through the “fire” than by basking in the joys of the easy, breezy, blissful days.

In order to receive the promise that God has for you, you have to face the process that comes with it. No, it’s not easy. But yes, it’s worth it!!!

Remember the passage from 1 Peter 1:7. It states:

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”

Think about the process of making pure gold. In order for gold to have it’s value, worth, purity, and luster, it must go through an extensive refining process — that involves fire. Look at life from a similar perspective – your “fire” is a refining process, making you better, more valuable, and more beautiful in the end!!!
